Ingredients
Green gram - 200 g
coconut grated - 5 tbsp
Onion -1
Shallot - 5
Cumin seeds - 2 tsp
Tomato - 1/2
Green chilli - 1
Coriander powder - 1/4 tbsp
Red chilli powder - 1/2 tbsp
Turmeric powder - 2 tsp
Garam masala powder - 1 tsp
Mustard seeds -1 tsp
Salt
Oil
Curry leaves
Dry red chilli - 1
How to prepare
- Wash and soak the green gram for 5 hours.In a cooker add the soaked green gram and cook it till it is 3/4 done
- In a pan , add 1/2 tbsp of coconut oil, Add the chopped onions and saute till it is transparent. Add the slit green chilli and saute it
- Add all the powders and saute till the raw smell goes off . Keep the flame low till it is sauted
- Add the chopped tomato . Add salt , water and cover it and cook till the tomatoes turn mushy
- Now add the 3/4 cooked green gram
- In a mixie , add the grated coconut , shallots , cumin seeds and grind it to a smooth paste . Add it to the green gram curry and mix it well
- For seasoning take 1/2 tbsp of oil in a pan. When the oil is hot , add the mustard seeds.
- When the mustard seeds splutter add the curry leaves and dry red chilli. When it is done add to the curry.
- Serve the hot green gram curry with rice , Puttu etc
Note
Keep the curry little watery as it will become thick when it cools
