Papaya wine

Green gram curry / Cherupayar curry


Ingredients
Green gram - 200 g
coconut grated - 5 tbsp
Onion -1
Shallot - 5
Cumin seeds - 2 tsp
Tomato - 1/2
Green chilli - 1
Coriander powder - 1/4 tbsp
Red chilli powder - 1/2 tbsp
Turmeric powder - 2 tsp
Garam masala powder - 1 tsp
Mustard seeds -1 tsp
Salt
Oil
Curry leaves
Dry red chilli - 1

How to prepare

  1. Wash and soak the green gram for 5 hours.In a cooker add the soaked green gram and cook it till it is 3/4 done
  2. In a pan , add 1/2 tbsp of coconut oil, Add the chopped onions and saute till it is transparent. Add the slit green chilli and saute it
  3. Add all the powders and saute till the raw smell goes off . Keep the flame low till it is sauted
  4. Add the chopped tomato . Add salt , water and cover it and cook till the tomatoes turn mushy
  5. Now add the 3/4 cooked green gram
  6. In a mixie , add the grated coconut , shallots , cumin seeds and grind it to a smooth paste . Add it to the green gram curry and mix it well
  7. For seasoning take 1/2 tbsp of oil in  a pan. When the oil is hot , add the mustard seeds.
  8. When the mustard seeds splutter add the curry leaves and dry red chilli. When it is done add to the curry. 
  9. Serve the hot green gram curry with rice , Puttu etc


Note

Keep the curry little watery as it will become thick when it cools
