Vazhathandu thoran / banana stem thoran




Ingredients

Banana stem - 2 cups
Shallots - 6
Garlic - 2 pods
Dried red chilli -6
Green chilli - 4
Coconut -3 tbsp
Curry leaves
Urad dal
Salt
Oil

How to make

  1. Clean the banana stem .Cut into round and then in small pieces
  2. Immediately put it in a bowl filled with salt water
  3. In a pan ,add the oil
  4. Once the oil gets heated up , add the mustard seeds .after the mustard seeds start to splutter add the curry leaves ,dried red chilli and shallots
  5. Now add the split urad dal
  6. Now add the chopped banana stem . Saute it.Once it's half cooked add the required salt
  7. In a blender add the grated coconut, garlic pods , green chilli .Whip it .
  8. Add it to the cooked banana stem .Check for salt .Once cooked switch off the flame .Serve immediately.
