Ingredients
Raw rice -1 cup
Water -2.5 cups
Coconut -1/4 cup
Red chillies -3
Hing - a pinch
Curry leaves - 1 string
Oil - 1 tbsp
Salt -1tsp
Urad dal - 1 tsp
Bengal gram dal -1 tsp
Mustard seeds -1 tsp
Green chilli -1 (optional)
Method
- Wash and soak raw rice for 10 min .Drain the excess water .Dry it partially and transfer it to a mixie jar.Grind it coarsely
- In a small pan ,add about 1 tbsp of oil.Add the mustard seeds.When it start to splutter add the urad dal , bengal gram dal ,red chillies, green chilli,curry leaves and hing
- In another pan ,heat about 2.5 cups of water.When it starts to boil , add the salt
- Now add the coarsely grinded raw rice.Mix it well at low heat for 5 min
- Add the tempering mix. Mix it well.It will start to thicken.
- Add the coconut .Mix it till all the water is absorbed .When the mix gets thickened switch off the flame .Allow it to cool for about 5 min
- Now take a medium sized ball .Shape it .Place it in a idli cooker and steam it for about 5 min
- Serve hot with chutney
